We’re not over it yet, and you shouldn’t be either.
Avocados have dominated the superfood headlines for a while now. In fact, you can hardly miss the fruit that has taken over our social feeds. However, there’s more to this than just the hype, and we applaud those who persist in taking photos of their avocados on toast. Why? We give you three reasons to continue the avocado craze…
FOR THE FAT
Believe it or not, we need fat to survive, and we’re pleased to tell you that avocados have an abundance of it (the good stuff of course). Avos are high in unsaturated fats, which can help to increase your levels of good cholesterol – great news for your arteries, and your heart. Around half an avocado counts as one of your five-a-day, so welcome some into your fruit bowl tonight.
FOR AN ENERGY BOOST
B vitamins are used by the body to help make energy, and avocados are a great source of the trusty vitamin B6. By eating a helping of the green stuff, you can help beat the feeling of lethargy, and you might also see a positive mood change. Plus, a lack of vitamin B6 can also cause anaemia, so keep your cupboards stocked with this green goddess.
FOR A FULLER FEELING
There’s nothing worse than feeling hungry an hour after your lunch – how will you be able to fend off your growling stomach until your evening meal? Luckily, avocados may just be your answer. A study published in the Nutrition Journal found that the participating overweight adults who ate approximately half an avocado at lunch were less likely to want to eat again for another three-five hours. Say yes to banishing those mid-afternoon pangs by including a portion of avo in your lunchtime salad.
